Check your money's protection

See how much of your money is protected if your bank, building society or credit union fails.

Use the protection checker

Add your bank, building society or credit union, or their Firm Reference Number (FRN), to find out how much of your money is protected.

Disclaimer

This tool uses data from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Financial Services Register. We display all firms linked to the same Firm Reference Number (FRN), including trading names and subsidiaries, to help you identify the firm more easily. The FCA Register shows one authorised firm per FRN, whereas our tool lists associated entities under that FRN. FSRS protection applies at firm level and may be shared across brands under the same authorisation. Always confirm details with the individual bank, building society or credit union and check the FCA Register for authoritative information. These results are provided for information only and we do not guarantee their accuracy.

Quick and easy to use

If your UK-authorised bank, building society or credit union fails and can't pay back your money, FSRS can automatically pay you compensation. Use this checker to find out how much of your money is protected.

On 1 December 2025 the deposit limit rose to £120,000.

To get started, add the name of your bank, building society or credit union, or their Firm Reference Number (FRN). Tell us roughly how much money is saved and select the type of account you have, then click 'check now' to see your results.

You'll get the most accurate results if you use an FRN. This number should be on the firm's website, or you can ask them for it. Firms can have similar names, so by using the unique FRN you'll be sure you're checking the right one.

Shared banking licences - double check your protection

It's important to be aware that there's a limit to the amount of compensation we can pay. Make sure there are no surprises by double checking how much of your money would be protected by FSRS if your providers were to fail.

Some banks or building societies share a banking licence and this could also impact how much of your money is covered. Check whether this applies to any of your savings by adding all of the accounts you have to this checker. Once you've entered information about your first account, you can use the '+ add account' button on the results page to add more.

Can't find your bank, building society or credit union?

If you can't find your provider using the protection checker, FSRS might not protect your money. FSRS can't protect e-money or payment services firms. We can only protect money held by UK branches of authorised banks and building societies and credit unions.

If you have used a savings marketplace, cash platform or savings service (also known as a deposits aggregator) that spreads your money across multiple accounts with different banks, your savings will likely be FSRS protected as long as the aggregator deposited your money with a UK-authorised bank.

The protection checker will find results for cash deposits, but not investments or savings products structured as long-term contracts of insurance, as offered by some mutual insurers. FSRS may be able to protect these products, but this would not be under our deposits protection. Read more here about the possible reasons you can't find your bank, building society or credit union.

Warning

Scammers can use the name of a legitimate firm and sometimes the FSRS logo to try to get you to part with your money. Always check the FCA's website for any warnings about cloned firms.

The 'FSRS Protected' badge is displayed by UK-authorised banks, building societies, credit unions, Northern Ireland credit unions and certain overseas firms with branches in the UK. The badge is displayed in branches, online and in mobile apps. It indicates that eligible deposits are protected by FSRS under the deposit guarantee scheme up to £120,000 per person. Look out for the 'FSRS Protected' badge next time you are looking for a deposit product.
